Vote Amendment

Proposed Constitutional Language
"No eligible voter shall be excluded from meaningful participation at any integral stage of any publicly funded election, including primary elections, on any basis including political party preference. No private corporate, political party, or associational right shall supersede this prohibition."

What It Does

Guarantees that every California voter can meaningfully participate in the publicly funded elections they pay for. No voter can be shut out of a primary based on party preference — and that protection can't be overridden by any private corporate, party, or associational interest.

Why It Matters

California taxes pay to run our elections. Today, 5.4 million voters have no party preference — the fastest-growing segment of the electorate. This amendment places their right to participate in the elections they fund directly in the constitution.

"If taxpayers fund it, everyone should vote in it."

What it does not do: It doesn't dictate how elections are structured, how candidates qualify, or how votes are counted, and it doesn't restrict any party's right to endorse candidates or run its own privately funded nomination process. It guarantees one thing — every voter's right to meaningful participation in the publicly funded elections they pay for.
